It is located seven kilometers to the north east of the city of Cusco. Etymologically Tambo means resting place and Machay means underground cave. Tambomachay might have been used an important religious function related to water and land regeneration. It is calculated it was constructed around the 1,500 A.D. These place has an approximate area of half a hectare and the material used in its construction was the limestone with polygonal style bonds. It presents the following sectors: sector of fountains and terraces in different levels, in the base we can find a fountain of big size that is supplied by two channels of ritual relevance. Terraces: there are various terraces that are clearly for soil exploitation avoiding the erosion and presenting channels. Pukara is a semi circular structure from where you can observe Tambomachay.
Tambomachay was on the route of the Kapaq Ñan, which was the most important road that communicated all the towns from the Tawantinsuyo.
